Code-to-Docs

Help articles written from your code. And kept right as you ship.

Code-to-Docs reads your GitHub or Bitbucket repositories, finds the questions your users ask about your product and writes the help-center answers from your code alone. When you merge a change, it proposes the fix. New documentation articles are included free.

How it works

Your product already knows the answers. It is all in the code.

01

Connect your code

Add your GitHub or Bitbucket repositories with a read-only token, or a public developer docs site. Passwords, keys and secret files are blanked out or skipped before anything is stored, and the index is refreshed every night.

Read only · secrets redacted · re-read nightly

02

Find the questions users ask

It studies the apps your customers use and proposes the how-to questions they ask, each one tied to the code files that answer it. Staff-only tools and debug screens are left out.

~40 questions per batch · each tied to 1 to 4 code files

03

Write from the code, nothing else

Each answer is written in a plain help-center voice from your code alone, with no web filler. Button and menu names are quoted exactly as your screens show them, and a check sends back any quote the code does not hold.

Code is the only source · exact on-screen wording · you publish

04

Stay right as you ship

Every hour it reads your merged pull requests, finds the articles a change makes wrong and proposes the fix, plus new questions to answer. Nothing changes until someone on your team accepts it.

Merged PRs checked hourly · fixes proposed, never forced

When you ship a change

A renamed button does not leave a wrong article behind

Your team renames a button. Within the hour Code-to-Docs links the merged pull request to the article that quotes the old name and proposes the new wording. You accept it or reject it.

Why it works

Your users ask AI how to use your product. Give it the right answer to quote.

When a customer asks ChatGPT or Google how to do something in your product, the answer comes from whatever pages explain it. If your help center is missing that answer, or describes last year's screens, the AI fills the gap from forums or a guess.

Code-to-Docs writes the answer from the one source that is never out of date: the code your customers are running. The steps match your screens word for word, and they stay that way as you ship.

Tested on a real product

The LiveHelpNow pilot

We built Code-to-Docs on LiveHelpNow, the live chat software company our CEO founded, before opening it to clients. Its 18 code repositories became the source of its help articles.

4,590

2,185

31

merged changes caught by the watch

In the reviewed articles, every claim we checked against the product was correct, and no code from the private repositories reached a page.

FAQ

Questions about Code-to-Docs

More answers on the FAQ page.

Which code sources can I connect?

GitHub or Bitbucket repositories with a read-only token, or a public developer docs site. Connect as many as your product has. Nothing is ever written to them.

Is our code safe?

We only read it. Passwords, keys and secret files are blanked out or skipped before anything is stored, and articles written from a private repository never show code, file paths or internal names.

Do articles go live on their own?

No. Each article is a draft until a person on your team reviews it and publishes it to the help section of your site, kept apart from your blog.

What happens when we ship a change?

Merged pull requests are checked every hour. When a change makes an article wrong, Code-to-Docs proposes the fix and flags new questions to answer. Nothing changes until you accept it.

What does Code-to-Docs cost?

New documentation articles are included free on every plan. Rewriting or regenerating an article uses your article credits.

Turn your code into a help center that keeps up

Connect a repository, review the first questions, publish the answers you approve. New documentation articles are included free on every plan.
